Georgetown’s Best Pizza Is in SoDo

Nine Pies Pizzeria--just up First Avenue South in the SoDo Urbanworks complex--serves the best pies in a three-mile radius.

Pizza chefs in the open kitchen toss and stretch the dough Neopolitan style and the pies are baked in a purpose-built gas oven. The crust is thin, chewy, and craveable, and the toppings are gourmet (Mama Lil's peppers, house-made meatballs, pancetta) without getting weird. My current favorite is the Siluro, topped with thin, rosemary roasted Yukon gold potato slices, red onion, mozzarella, and Gorgonzola cheese. Nine Pies also serves lovely salads, breadsticks, and calzones.

If you're a drinker, you'll be glad to know they serve tap beer and Nine Hands' wine (tasting room next door).

Seating is indoor and outdoor in good weather, and the service is unfailingly, authentically sweet. Though they don't deliver, takeout service is fast and friendly (call to order). And during lunch they serve pizza by the slice at the counter.

Find Nine Pies at 3861 First Ave S, 11 am until 9 pm, seven days a week.
