It’s a Georgetown Halloween!
If you love the Friends of Georgetown History's Haunted History Tour and the Georgetown Community Council's Spooky Walk, and would like to witness even MORE HALLOWEEN in Georgetown — you are in luck! The Georgetown Association of Arts and Culture (GTAAC) is hosting its first-ever annual Halloween Parade this year.
"Rain or shine," the parade will usher costumes, floats, giant creatures of the night, zombies, and marching bands (and who knows what else) down a half-mile route that starts at Mini Mart City Park, flows past Oxbow Park, and concludes at Star Brass Works Lounge.
GTAAC will offer a variety of free workshops leading up to the event to help you get ready! A few workshop examples include Build-a-Giant Creature, Special FX Make-up, and How to Walk Like a Zombie.
There also will be a costume contest open to everyone, the wicked and undead included. All ghosts and goblins — and anyone in costume — will be invited to join the procession. Expect trick-or-treaters before the parade and for Airport Way to be aflutter with ghoulish activities throughout the evening.
To make this event a success, we need your help! GTAAC is inviting you to get involved in a number of ways:
Donate to our bake sale! The sale is scheduled for 2PM on August 10 at Equinox’s Very Out in the Open House: 6555 5th Ave S. We will have a variety of spooky treats for sale and will happily accept any homemade goodies you would like to contribute.
Sign up to lead a fun workshop! Do you carve pumpkins, know how to tame werewolves, or make cool masks? If so, we would love for you to share these skills by teaching them to others.
Sign up to volunteer for the parade itself! We are looking for parade emcees, security, pacers, clean-up crew, and more. We need lots of people to make this happen!
Start planning your parade entry! Registration for ensembles and floats will open in September. (Have a rain plan in mind.)
Get prepared for Trick-or-Treaters! Decorate your house and stock up on candy. There will be a "Best Decorated House" contest in addition to the costume contest. Attendees will be encouraged to trick-or-treat and to delight in the spookiness of the neighborhood before the parade.
